David Gareja & Signagi Tour

Kakheti - Eastern region famous wine making region of Georgia, rich of various sorts of wine. Almost everywhere you go in Kakheti, you’ll be invited to a glass of wine. Here you’ll find the incredible monastery complex of Davit Gareja, many beautiful churches, castles and mansions around the main town, Telavi, and picturesque Signagi, which is being developed as the capital of wine tourism. 


Tour takes place in the south part of region Kakheti, east Georgia.

The first destination of the excursion is one of the well known historical monument of east Georgia – Semi-Desert, David Gareja monastery complex, unique for its wild nature.

David-Gareja is located in a desert area at the border with Azerbaijan. The complex was founded in the 6th century by David (St. David Garejeli), one of the thirteen Assyrian monks who came to Georgia for strengthening Christian faith. The complex consists of thirteen monasteries. Of particular interest are the complexes of Lavra and Udabno. Monastery was an important centre of religious and cultural activity for many centuries. Today these sites surprise us with their architectural design and unique murals of the 10th - 11th cc. Here you have a chance to visit wonderful painted caves and views across to Azerbaijan.

According to the belief, visiting David-Gareja three times can be equaled to a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.


Visit Signagi City and  Bodbe Monastery at the same day

its economy is dominated by the production of wine and traditional carpets. The town is walled with the remnants of 18th-century fortifications.Signagi and its environs are home to several historical and cultural monuments, like Signagi Museum which exhibits the paintings by Niko Pirosmanashvili, the greatest Georgian self-taught artist of the 19-20th cc.

In Signagi there are many restaurants, wine cellar – “Peasant’s tears”, where tourists can taste wines and learn a lot about wine making traditions of Georgia.

The town overlooks the Alazani Valley and faces the Greater Caucasus Mountains.

Visit Bodbe Monastery, Orthodox monastic complex of St. Nino at Bodbe. The monastery now functions as a nunnery and is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia. Here is the tomb of St Nino


And a spring which has miraculous power of cure. Faithful people, who believe in miracle come from every corner and have a bath in this spring.
